CONAI will be advising whether or not your property is in the reserve. They are providing certifications for those properties outside of the reserve. You may send an email to CONAI directly with the contact information below or visit their office in person in San Jose. Either way, it is a good idea to communicate in Spanish.
Sra. Maria Mercedes Vasquez Mena
This is a very complicated situation that has been going on for many years. The residents of the community bought properties in good faith with titles provided by the government of Costa Rica. The government is now proposing to move the habitants or provide compensation. Some habitants have been in Cocles for 3 generations. People need to hear how this is impacting us.
We need to know more about our community to help provide supporting information to analyze the social and economic impact that the decision will have on the area. There are some neighbors who may not have internet or WhatsApp. This will require some canvassing to ensure all community members are included.
If you are a foreigner, reach out to the embassy of your home country. Write your ambassador to discuss the concerns regarding the ability to be compensated fairly for your property.
